The magic of materials

Cosentino メーカー として

We take a look inside the beautiful home of Demi Plantagie and her partner. A completely renovated home that Demi worked passionately on for a year and a half, together with her father, Bert Plantagie. Beautiful materials are the basis of a successful remodel, that is obvious, when taking a look in this astonishing house.

Passion for interior design
The interior design business has been familiar territory for Demi since childhood. Since 2000, her father, Bert Plantagie, has been at the helm of the successful company of the same name. "When I was about 16 years old, I started with working in the Dutch factory during my school holidays," says Demi. "My interest in the interior design industry actually started at that point."

It has since become a real passion, both privately and professionally. Bert Plantagie is therefore truly a family business. "We sometimes have to be careful not to just talk about interior design trends," Demi says with a wink.

"It's just nice to all share the same interest. My boyfriend also works in the family business. A year and a half ago, I started my own online home decor store, They & Me. I've been working with my father for so long, so it was only natural that we thought of everything for this house together."

Bert had the role of architect. Together with Demi, they visited the renovation every week for a year and a half. "Every time we walked around, we came up with new ideas; it drove the contractor a little crazy at times," Demi says, laughing. "But in the end, everything was executed perfectly with beautiful materials and the house is completely balanced."

"The fireplace has become the eye-catcher! We placed it in the middle of the living room so you have a view of it from both the kitchen and the seating area."

Dekton: versatile material
Bert Plantagie's collection is known for its many possibilities: the furniture is handcrafted and offer an unprecedented range of personalized niceties such as duo upholstery, custom and color bases, as well as many optional sizes. In this, the Dutch company also collaborates with the Spanish brand Cosentino and the material Dekton.

Demi: "I know the material Dekton very well. I use it in my own collection. Often for custom tabletops, but actually it can be used everywhere, even outdoors. In this house, you will find these beautiful materials in almost every room. In the hall, toilet, utility room and both bathrooms, Dekton Stonika Bergen gloss is applied; all 8 mm thickness. And around the fireplace in the living room we chose Silestone Et Noir with a thickness of 12 mm.

“I just think it's a very beautiful material. In addition, it is very practical because it is easy to maintain. The finish is amazing and stays beautiful. And you can have it custom-made exactly the way you want it. The slab material is available in large sizes so you don't have any seams. Also a variety of thicknesses are also possible. And, of course, endless color schemes. From completely plain to beautiful marble veins. For me, the material is very familiar so I only requested color samples to make the right choices. I would recommend interested parties to visit Cosentino City in Amsterdam. There you can see the slabs in large format yourself or with your architect."

"The floor in the hall has been re-laid according to the original pattern. We came up with the Dekton wall cladding ourselves, but it looks like it has always been this way. Also in the toilet and in the utility room, Dekton by Cosentino forms the basis of the custom furnishings."

Sleek black
For inspiration, Demi visits many interior design fairs both in The Netherlands and abroad. Pinterest is also a favorite tool. "Of course, I also visit many home furnishing stores," Demi says."Both professionally and for the design of my own home. I personally like the living style 'classic modern. "That's also how the design plan for this house was shaped. The classic characters of the house have been preserved and everything else has been modernized. That's also why I chose sleek elements and the color black. Like the steel doors and the modern black kitchen with an island. Beautiful materials are the basis for me. Both in my own collection and in the choices I made for this house. Here I chose solid black material from Dekton for the countertops in the color Domoos. Everything was custom-made by the company Van Rossum."

Combination with natural wood
"To create balance and atmosphere, I sought the combination with the natural material wood," Demi continues. "The beautiful floor forms a nice contrast and the wood is reflected again in the tabletop of the Gusto table. This is from my own They & Me collection, as are the dining chairs Moore. I also added an accent color: ochre yellow. I find it a very nice yet subtle tint to add color into an interior. The bar stools 'Flip' in ochre yellow are from the bert plantagie collection. The color is also reflected in the artwork by Walter van Oel."

Hotel suite in the house
Through a stylish staircase surrounded by, again, the classic stained-glass windows, you enter the beautiful second floor. The master bedroom with a large bath, and the spacious luxury adjoining bathroom are designed with just as much eye for detail as the kitchen and living room. A true hotel suite at home.
"We also chose the material Dekton in marble look here," explains Demi.

"Everything was custom-made and the large slabs made it an impressive whole. Like everywhere else in the house, we also chose black faucets in this bathroom. I like it when everything comes back. This creates unity in a house”.
By the way, just like in a kitchen, Dekton is also ideal material for the bathroom. It is scratch-resistant, water-resistant and very easy to clean. The stylish guest bathroom also features the versatile material Dekton. The black elements characteristic of the house are also reflected in this space."
